The St. Louis Blues are the oldest active NHL team that has not won a Stanley Cup. But, the team has been in the playoffs on three separate occasions 1968, 1969, and 1970. It has been 49 years since their last final appearance and the Blues are looking to capitalize on their playoff success against the Boston Bruins.
The last time the Blues made the Stanley Cup Final in 1970, they were swept by the Bruins. The series featured the game where the infamous photograph was taken of Bobby Orr soaring through the air after scoring the Cup-clinching goal in overtime of Game 4.
Although, it won’t be an easy task for the Blues, they will be looking to redeem themselves against the Bruins in the upcoming Cup-series.
In the regular season, the Bruins finished third overall and went 49-24-9. The Blues finished 12th and finished with a record of 45-28-9. The Blues went from being in last place on Jan. 3 to making the Cup Final at the end of the season.
The Bruins clinched their final spot with a 4-0 series win over the Carolina Hurricanes and the Blues defeated the San Jose Sharks 4-2 in their series.
The Bruins have won the Stanley Cup six times in franchise history, with the most recent win in 2011. They appear to be the favored to win the cup, but some say it won’t be an easy fight.
